If you are creating or redoing a landing page for your business, here are some of the most important things to keep in mind:

  1. Introduce your visitors to your product or service. If they are arriving at your landing page for the first time, they likely do not know who you are! Make that introduction exciting, engaging, and inspirational, like Flickr and The Narrative Clip do.
  2. Show the product in action. With few exceptions, the most successful landing pages feature lots of high-quality, original photography showing their product being used, in different environments, and close up. The same idea applies for digital products – show a representation of what your product can do, like Intercom opens with, and lots of preview screens like Tethr.
  3. Collect leads at the top and the bottom. Whether you are trying to earn signups, downloads, purchases, or subscribers, give your visitors a place to get started right at the top of the page and at the end. That way, you’ll catch both the audience that has already decided they want to use your service, and the people who want to get to know you a little first.
  4. Use A/B tests to determine what landing page features and configuration most appeals to your users. This is the science of landing page design – use it to keep improving!

  1. Proper URL formatting - use keywords and make it easy to read.
  2. Create a relevant, keyword-rich title.
  3. Use breadcrumbs.
  4. Consider including an internal site search.
  5. Optimize your headings using h1 - h6 tags.
  6. Use keywords in your main content (the first 100-150 words of the article).
  7. Watch your content length. Aim for at least 2000 words when using competitive keywords.
  8. Add external links.
  9. Make strategic use of social share buttons.
  10. Make the site work well on mobile and load fast on all devices.
